Calling mums of teenage/early twenties sons: do they always leave the kitchen a mess after latenight snacking?

My son always makes food when he comes in from the pub. I love him to bits, but it's really annoying as he always makes a mess and I'm petrified he'll burn the house down! Does anyone have similar experiences or suggestions on how I can avoid this?
