Which is better for a college freshman: Macbook or Windows-based laptop?

I'm taking a humanities course, so I'd want a laptop that can handle a lot of research, note-taking and piles of information. I also need it to be lightweight but sturdy, so that it can handle being lugged around all day. I'll expect to play music, watch movies and play some games on the laptop, I need a wireless and a bluetooth connection as well and hopefully, a laptop that can survive the four years I spend in college and it'll be even better if it can last longer. A long battery life will definitely help and a strong virus protection as well. Thank you beforehand.
