If Bi-focal applies to gles then why not bi-otol for hearing speech?

If gles are called bi-focal because of their ability to see near and far distances. Then why can't voice audio be called 'bi-otol'. Meaning it occurs at two sound levels. One level produced by the vowels, and the other a much, much weaker level produced by the consonants.
