Would Ellen and Melissa Etheridge be considered butch, femme or in between?

Whenever I see Ellen and Melissa Etheridge, I always think they're' in between butch and femme. Like they're no where near as butch as k.d Lang, Phranc, Leslie Feinberg and Christina Marinoni (Cynthia Nixon's girlfriend). But they're no where near as femme as Portia De Rossi, Francesca Gregorini, Tammy Lynn Michaels or Cynthia Nixon.
