Gas fireplace! Does anyone know this?
Bah, incorrect answers. If your fireplace has a simple burner that looks like a pipe with holes in it, you can use that as a log lighter to start a wood fire. You'll need a grate or basket to pile the logs in. When the logs are burning, turn off the gas. Advantages: Uses less gas and gives you a great natural wood fire and smell. Disadvantages: Requires a supply of seasoned firewood. If you want to, you can purchase a set of ceramic logs that appear to be real and heat by radiation. Advantages: No mess or schlepping wood into the house and ashes out. Disadvantages: Uses more gas, just like a heater or furnace. The choice is yours. Select one that matches your lifestyle. I agree you should have a fireplace/chimney company inspect your equipment and clean it if necessary.
